Swallowing Stones Book Review

Swallowing Stones

Emma Wayt

The book Swallowing Stones was beautifully written. It is about a tragic accident that set off chain of reactions to this horrible event. Michael Mackenzie fired off a shot on the 4th of July showing off his Grandfather’s old gun to his best friends. What he didn’t know was that the shot had taken the life of a man and that this small deed would have terrible repercussions.

There are two main characters  in this novel: Michael Mackenzie, the accidental killer, and Jenna Ward, the daughter of the victim.

After Michael finds out about the repercussions of the fatal shot he seeks guidance from his best friend Joe Sadowski who tells him to keep quiet because he could go to jail for it.  Throughout the book Michael is trouble with a horrible guilt while more and more people are involved and getting hurt.

Meanwhile Jenna Ward is struggling to cope with the death of her father. She begins to ask what if questions over and over. She wanted revenge at first so she could fill the empty void deep within her, but later she just wanted it all to be over. But when Jenna starts having panic attacks around her boyfriend she begins to wonder if it has anything to do with the death of her father.

Both of Jenna’s and Michael’s lives turn into a state of disruption with misunderstanding, friends, break ups and trust that has been thrown out the window. All this is happening while both are trying to live a normal teenage life.

This book has a complex plot but at the same time is easy to read. I recommend this book  to anyone who wants a good read.
